Clik here to view.Lithuania will decide whether to join the euro only after clarifying the situation in the currency union. This was announced today, the country’s Prime Minister Andrews Kubilyus over national radio. According to him, in 2013 Lithuania will meet the Maastricht criteria and therefore could claim membership in the Eurozone.
“We plan budget deficit in 2013 to 2%, the national debt – 40% of gross domestic product (GDP) requirements for candidates for the EUR respectively 3% and 60%”, he said. The Prime Minister also believes that Lithuania will not exceed the permissible level of inflation. However Vilnius no hurry to enter the Eurozone.
“The euro remains a strategic goal of Lithuania, but we want the situation in the euro area is clear and stable”, said the Prime Minister. The sounded notes of doubt in his speech for the first time. Earlier Kubilyus was clearly stated that Lithuania plans to adopt the EUR in 2014.
